Hello,

I'm trying to find a program (preferably on the east coast) where I can study international social work or at least a program that has an emphasis on it.  I've had a lot of trouble through my search and I've found very few universities that have this program and those that do are extremely expensive.  What help or advice could you give me about programs?  What about international programs?  I heard grad school is free in Sweden and cheap in South Africa. Thanks.

not on the East coast, but Tulane has a lot of international social work activity going on ... an option to go to India for a couple weeks, and/or a whole semester, some other international field placements etc ...

While also not on the East coast, The University of Texas at Austin has an International program that has a great reputation. While, I did not go through the international program, I have friends who have studied abroad in Europe, Africa, South America and Australia.

UT Austin is the number 6 ranked School of Social Work in the US. Barbara White (the Dean) is the only person to have been both the president of NASW and the president of CSWE.

Over 90% of the graduates pass the licensure exam on their first sitting (which seems to be a issue for lots of people). I will be completing my MSSW in May and have already taken and passed the licensure exam.

BTW, if the MSSW is unfamiliar, it is a Master of Science in Social Work. UT is one of only two schools that have this designation. I believe the other is the University of Wisconsin.

While located in a politically conservative state, Austin is a progressive, urban city with a high value for social justice. I would definitely check it out if you are not wedded to the idea of staying on the East coast.

Cheers,

Paula
